I hereby acknowledge and agree to the following terms and conditions regarding my child participating in swimming activities at Ascend California:

1. Assumption of Risk: I understand and acknowledge that swimming involves inherent risks, including but not limited to the risk of drowning, injury from slips and falls, and exposure to potentially hazardous conditions. I voluntarily assume all such risks on behalf of my child.
2. Supervision: I understand that Ascend Speech & Debate Communications LLC ("Ascend") will provide lifeguard supervision. However, I acknowledge that it is not possible to eliminate all risks associated with swimming, and I agree to ensure that my child follows all safety instructions provided by camp staff.
3. Medical Authorization: In the event of an emergency or if my child requires medical attention due to a swimming-related incident, I authorize Ascend California staff to seek medical treatment for my child and to administer any necessary medical care, including but not limited to CPR, first aid, and transportation to a medical facility at the discretion of Ascend.
4. Release of Liability: I hereby release, waive, discharge, and covenant not to sue Ascend, its directors, officers, staff, volunteers, agents, and representatives from any and all claims, liabilities, demands, actions, or causes of action arising out of my child's participation in swimming activities at Ascend California, including but not limited to personal injury, illness, death, or property damage.
5. Indemnification: I agree to indemnify and hold harmless Ascend, its directors, officers, staff, volunteers, agents, and representatives from any and all liabilities or expenses (including attorney fees) arising from or related to my child's participation in swimming activities, including any claims brought by third parties.
6. Acknowledgment of Understanding: I certify that my child is capable of swimming and I don't hold any reservations when it comes to them taking part in swimming activities. I certify that I have read this waiver and fully understand its terms and conditions. I acknowledge that I am voluntarily agreeing to its provisions, and I understand that my child's participation in swimming activities is contingent upon my acceptance of this waiver.

By signing below, I acknowledge that I am legally bound by this waiver and agree to its terms and conditions.

At all times, as an Ascend Student, I will…

• Report all instances of bullying, harassment, racism, transphobia, homophobia, sexism, or any other lewd and malicious behavior.
• Strive to do my best in all coaching sessions and group sessions.
• Collaborate equitably and thoughtfully and not exclude anyone in the camp, be it maliciously or unintentionally.
• Be respectful of all personal boundaries put in place by staff and students.
• Actively listen to constructive feedback.
• Avoid any and all intimate contact while at camp.
• Maintain civility with all other students, coaches, and staff.
• Act in a way that reflects positively on myself and Ascend, during and after camp, as well as adhere to the rules outlined in Appendix A.

The below guidelines represent best practices that Ascend will seek to enforce during our campers' stay with us. The below guidelines are subject to change at the discretion of Ascend management and will be enforced in the manner deemed applicable and appropriate.

• Treat everyone with kindness, regardless of background, experience level, or opinion.
• Respectful communication includes avoiding offensive language, insults, and personal attacks.
• Actively listen to others during discussions and debates.
• Be mindful of others' comfort levels and personal space.
• Avoid interrupting others while they are speaking.
• Acknowledge and respect diverse viewpoints, even if you disagree.
• Use inclusive language that avoids stereotypes and generalizations.
• Offer constructive criticism during debates and feedback sessions.
• Celebrate the successes of your peers and offer support during challenges.
• Engage in respectful online discourse if using social media during camp.

• Follow all camp rules and staff instructions. This includes curfew times, designated areas, and safety protocols.
• Report any safety concerns to a staff member immediately.
• Be aware of your surroundings and take responsibility for your belongings.
• Horseplay and roughhousing are not permitted in dormitories or classrooms.
• Possession or use of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or illegal substances is strictly prohibited.
• Adhere to all fire safety regulations and evacuation procedures.
• Only use electrical appliances in accordance with safety guidelines.
• Report any injuries or illnesses to a staff member promptly.
• Walk in well-lit areas at night and do not wander alone off-campus.
• Use appropriate footwear and clothing for scheduled activities.

• Attend all scheduled workshops, debates, and activities to the best of your ability.
• Be prepared for class discussions by completing assigned readings and exercises.
• Actively participate in class discussions and contribute your ideas constructively.
• Show respect for your instructors and coaches and their feedback.
• Uphold academic integrity by completing all assignments independently and honestly. This includes proper citation of sources and avoiding plagiarism.
• Take detailed notes during workshops and lectures.
• Practice research skills by finding credible sources to support arguments.
• Develop strong time management skills to balance academics and social activities.

• Maintain a clean and orderly living space in your assigned dormitory.
• Respect the privacy and belongings of your fellow campers.
• Be considerate of others' sleep schedules by observing quiet hours.
• Report any maintenance issues in the dormitory to a staff member.
• Dispose of trash properly in designated bins.
• Do not tamper with fire alarms or other safety equipment.
• Be mindful of noise levels in common areas, especially during study times.
• Share common spaces and resources respectfully with fellow campers.
• Help maintain a positive and inclusive atmosphere in your dormitory.
• Abide by any limitations or restrictions outlined for specific allergies or medical conditions.

• Cell phone use is discouraged during scheduled activities and classes.
• Designate specific times for cell phone use to minimize distractions and promote social interaction.
• Use electronic devices responsibly and avoid online harassment or cyberbullying.
• Report any instances of cyberbullying or online harassment to a staff member.
• Be mindful of your digital footprint and avoid posting inappropriate content online.
• Use camp Wi-Fi responsibly and avoid downloading illegal content.
• Seek permission from others before taking their picture or video.
• Respect copyright laws when using online resources for research.
