Master safety switch. When frozen, none of the discretionary student-facing features (Ascend Cup, July Madness, Tournament, Polls, Traitors, Memos, Scheduling/1-on-1) reach students — even ones whose own toggle is ON. Core operational data (profiles, rosters, forms, login) is never affected.
When ON, the self-paced onboarding course appears under Resources → Orientation for students, and parents see their camper's completion status. Completions are tracked in the admin Form Responses view. This pre-camp course is exempt from the student-update freeze above — it shows whenever this is ON.

A panic button — not a precondition. Normally chat is controlled by the category toggles below. Engage this only to instantly hide chat for everyone (all categories) at once; lift it to return to whatever the category toggles allow. Existing messages are always preserved.
This is the main on/off control. Chat is live for a category when its toggle is On — no master switch needed. Turning a category off hides chat for everyone in it, even individually-granted users. (The emergency switch above can hide everything at once if you ever need it.)
